Rush Limbaugh Facebook Page

On August 11, 2010, conservative talk radio host, Rush Limbaugh, launched his Facebook fan page. As Limbaugh announced on his syndicated talk radio show on the day after the launch, the newly created Facebook page gathered over 188,000 fans in the first few hours of going live. As of August 16, 2010, Limbaugh’s Facebook page has over 400,000 fans registered.

An iPad giveaway contest was tied into the fan page launch. Officially titled the “EIB iPad Giveaway,” the contest will consist of a total of nine 64 gigabyte 3G iPads being given away to randomly selected individuals that registered on Limbaugh’s Facebook page. One iPad is scheduled to be given away every Monday, Wednesday and Friday through the 30^th of August of 2010. Each of the iPads to be given away will be specially engraved with Rush Limbaugh’s signature and the EIB logo on the back panel of each device. The acronym EIB stands for the “Excellence in Broadcasting Network.” This is a self-stylized name which has become part of the brand created by Rush Limbaugh as he himself has recounted in a New York Times interview dating back to 1990 and once again in 2008. EIB does not represent an actual media network.

In addition to the iPad giveaway, another initial draw to the Rush Limbaugh Facebook page has been the twenty exclusive pictures from his wedding to Kathryn Rogers which took place in June of 2010 at Limbaugh’s Palm Beach, Florida Estate. Included in the photo album uploaded to Rush Limbaugh’s Facebook page are seven images of singer Elton John, whom was hired by Limbaugh to perform at his wedding for the sum of $1 million dollars.

On the day of the Launch, Rush Limbaugh stated, “Now, I don't know if anybody has compiled the fastest growth on a Facebook fan page, but I mean this is huge, 188,000 in 24 hours.” Although the growth of the Rush Limbaugh Facebook page is sizable, according to statistics posted by allfacebook.com, it is inline with other popular Facebook fan page launches. Facebook fan pages for the Family Guy, Lady Gaga, Megan Fox and South Park all regularly register growth of over 100,000 fans per day and have gathered an aggregate fan base of over 10 million fans. A clearer trend of growth for Limbaugh’s fan page will become evident after its first full month of publication.

Rush Limbaugh can be heard weekdays on his nationally syndicated radio show, “The Rush Limbaugh Show.” The show is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks on over 640 radio stations and has a national audience measured at 20 million listeners.
